NY-26: Jack Davis' Fake 3rd Party Kicked Off Ballot (lipris)
This is pretty huge news for those following this race. Two time loser Crazy Jack Davis had created a third party, the "save Jobs and Farms" Party", in the event of a (likely) primary loss to netroots candidate Jon Powers. Davis running on a third party line in November would certainly doom Powers in the general. But a funny thing happened. Davis failed to file the paperwork accepting his fake party's nomination so the party without a candidate will not appear on the ballot after all. The primary is on Tuesday and things look good for Powers. They look even better now that it's much less likely Crazy Jack Davis will go all zombie Lieberman in November.

Clinton Advisors Wishy-Washy on Palin (Bob Brigham)
Ouch:
Clinton advisers say that Mrs. Clinton wants to do everything she can to elect Mr. Obama, so that she cannot be blamed if he loses — yet she also does not want to be too closely associated with him if he does lose, nor to tarnish her own image by taking on a rookie national politician like Ms. Palin and possibly coming up short.

16,000 to Attend National Anti-Poverty Convention on Saturday (Mathew Gross)
For the past year, poor and working families have been gathering in town halls across the country to create a bottom-up national platform to address the issues facing their communities. Tomorrow, more than 16,000 people will gather in Los Angeles, Chicago and Birmingham, AL to ratify the platform. Check out the Equal Voice for America's Families Campaign blog to watch the convention live, or visit the campaign's LifeCasting Across the Digital Divide page to meet some of the participants.

ID-Sen: GOP Begs Conservatives Not to Splinter Vote (Senate Guru)
How freaked out are Idaho Republicans about the strength of the candidacy of Democratic former Congressman Larry LaRocco? So freaked out that Republican Congresscritter Bill Sali is personally asking conservative non-Republican candidates Libertarian Kent Marmon, independent Rex Rammell, and independent Pro-Life, to withdraw from the race so that they won't shave votes from do-nothing Republican Jim Risch. (HT: 43SB) This comes shortly after Republicans failed to bump Rammell from the ballot altogether. Both Research 2000 and Greg Smith & Associates see ID-Sen as sitting on the brink of being a single-digit race. Please contribute to Larry LaRocco via the Expand the Map! ActBlue page right now and keep the Idaho Republicans reeling!

CT-04: Shays Runs to RNC To Defend "Awesome" Palin (tparty)
Chris Shays, who previously said he wasn't going to attend the RNC because he wanted to "campaign and meet constituents, apparently was so moved by the media's "gross attacks" on Sarah Palin that he changed his mind at the last minute, according to MSNBC's First Read:
Rep. Christopher Shays (R-CT), who is in a tough re-election fight back home, had not planned to attend the convention in St. Paul. But as he exited the convention tonight, he said he decided yesterday that after hearing the "gross attacks on Sarah [Palin], I had to be here."
He said he had seen the attacks on Hillary Clinton and didn’t want the same thing to happen to Sarah.
Saying he “felt guilty” for not being at the convention, he flew in this morning and watched Palin’s speech from the floor.
When asked about Palin's pro-life position by Andrea Mitchell on MSNBC this afternoon, Shays comments were that: "it's a woman that should be selected... not a particular kind of woman," and called Palin "awesome."

Ned Lamont: Jeff Merkley will "rock the boat" in Washington DC (karichisholm)
Over at DailyKos, they've got the text of an email from Ned Lamont:
From early on, Jeff was consistent in his opposition to the war in Iraq, and he knows that the solution requires real diplomacy. In Oregon, he has been a progressive leader on issues ranging from education to healthcare to ethics. And this summer, he stood up strong in opposition to the FISA legislation that gave retroactive immunity for telecommunications companies and eroded our civil liberties.
We need as large a majority as possible in the Senate. But electing Jeff to the Senate will mean much more than just one more vote - it will mean bringing a real leader to Washington on the issues who will fight the status quo... and rock the boat.

Group of senators matching gifts to the DSCC (desmoinesdem)
If you receive fundraising e-mails from the DSCC, you've probably noticed this lately:
Click here to make a contribution of $50, $75 or more to the DSCC to help Democrats win a filibuster-proof Democratic majority on November 4. Give by midnight August 31 and a group of Democratic senators will match every single dollar you give, effectively doubling your contribution.Anyone know which senators are in this group? After Labor Day we should be ready to get another Use It Or Lose It campaign going. Sven from My Silver State did a lot of research for this diary on how much each Democratic senator has given to the DSCC so far this cycle.
